Pakistani Party Wear Dresses

Evening changes what a Pakistani outfit has to do. The fabric needs to catch the light, the embroidery should read from across the room, and the dupatta can be lighter and more fluid, whether you drape it over one shoulder or over your head. This collection is for dinners, dholkis, family parties and any invitation where you want to look properly dressed without upstaging a bride. Long frocks, a short kameez over a sharara and straight-trouser suits all have their place; the right one depends on how the evening will actually unfold. Like our other guest outfits, they arrive within 18 calendar days of ordering, production included, and standard delivery is free from €200.

What makes an outfit party wear

The cut barely changes between a daytime event and an evening one. What changes is the fabric and where the embroidery sits. After dark you see more organza, net, silk chiffon and, in winter, velvet, finished with metallic thread, sequins or small mirrors that respond to artificial light. Evening pieces also tend to concentrate their work at the neckline and sleeves, which is what people actually see once you’re seated at a table.

A party outfit has to last, too. You’ll sit, stand, be photographed and probably dance for most of the night. A kameez that’s too stiff or a hem that’s too long becomes a nuisance well before dessert.

Party wear, formal or wedding guest: which collection?

These collections look alike at first glance, but they answer different questions. If you’ve been invited to one of the wedding days themselves (Nikkah, Baraat or Walima), begin with our Pakistani wedding guest dresses. For daytime or more formal occasions, such as Eid with the family or a formal dinner, Pakistani formal dresses are the better fit: more restrained embroidery and less shine. Party wear takes over when the event is in the evening and the mood is openly celebratory.

Which silhouette for which kind of evening?

At a dholki, most people end up on floor cushions around the drum. A short kameez with a sharara or wide trousers gives you room to move, and a light dupatta won’t get in the way when everyone is singing and clapping. For a dinner in a banqueting hall, a long Pakistani frock flared from the waist makes an impression as you walk in and needs very little jewellery to finish it.

Eid evenings have their own conventions, and our Eid dresses are gathered separately for them.

Colours that hold up under evening light

Deep shades such as bottle green, midnight blue, plum and burgundy keep their richness under warm lighting, and gold or silver embroidery stands out more clearly against a dark ground. Pastels still work, particularly in summer, as long as they have some texture: silver thread, sequins, an organza with a slight sheen. Black is a favourite for evenings, and a black sharara worn with a brighter kameez is an easy way into it. Some families avoid black during wedding festivities, though, so if your party is part of a wedding, ask the hosts first.

Ordering for a fixed date

Work back from the date of the party. Express delivery generally isn’t offered on guest outfits, so allow the full 18 days, plus a few extra in case you want a local tailor to make a small adjustment.
