Mehndi Lehenga for Brides

Of all the bride’s outfits, the Mehndi lehenga is the one allowed to be playful. It’s bright where the Baraat is formal, lighter so you can dance, and decorated with the folk details that belong to the evening: mirror work, gota patti, multicolour threadwork and tassels. Colours usually come from the Mehndi palette of yellow, green, orange and hot pink, often several at once, and the look is finished with floral jewellery rather than heavy gold. What sets a Mehndi lehenga apart

Compared with a Baraat lehenga, the Mehndi version is lighter in every sense. The skirt usually carries less heavy embroidery and more colour, the shirt or blouse is shorter, and the dupatta is often a contrasting shade edged with gota. It’s made to be worn among cushions and flowers and to move when you dance, so lighter raw silks, cotton silks and organzas are common. One colour or the whole palette

Some brides choose a single strong Mehndi colour, most often yellow or green, and each of those has its own collection: the yellow Mehndi dresses and the green Mehndi outfits. Others go multicolour, with patchwork skirts, contrasting panels or a rainbow of gota. Multicolour hides the odd henna mark better and looks joyful in photographs, but it works best when one colour clearly leads.

Lehenga or sharara for the Mehndi?

A lehenga gives you the full skirt and the most bridal look. A sharara is easier for dancing, for sitting on a low stage or floor cushions through the rasams, and for moving between groups of guests.
