Mehndi Sharara for Brides

Of all the Mehndi silhouettes, the sharara asks the least of the bride. The trousers widen from the hip into a full, swinging volume, so you can sit cross-legged on the stage for the rasams, get up to dance and move between guests without gathering up a skirt. Paired with a short kurti or a peplum top and a dupatta edged with gota, it has all the colour and movement of a lehenga with far less to manage. Why brides choose a sharara for the Mehndi

The Mehndi is often the longest and busiest evening of a Pakistani wedding. There are the rasams, which can keep you seated on the stage for a long time, then the dancing and the photographs. A lehenga looks wonderful but still means managing a full skirt all night, whereas a sharara moves with you. It also photographs well in motion, because the flare opens out every time you turn.

Short kurti, peplum or long shirt?

A short kurti to the hip is the most popular pairing: it shows the whole sharara and feels festive and light. A peplum top, flared at the waist, adds a little structure and suits a more contemporary look. A longer shirt to the knee is more covered and more traditional, and it still works if the sharara is very full. Whatever the top, a contrasting dupatta in a second Mehndi colour ties the outfit together.

Sharara, lehenga or gharara for the Mehndi?
