Diagrams for each measurement sit next to the fields, so there is no guesswork about where the tape goes.

Measure over a thin shirt with a soft tape rather than working from your usual jacket size; the two scales do not correspond. If you fall between sizes or outside standard sizing, the customised route is the safer one on a garment this long — the shoulder line is the single point that cannot be corrected afterwards. Colour changes and selected adjustments to the embroidery or design can also be requested, subject to feasibility, and should be raised before the order is placed. Because each piece is produced to order, count the production time back from the wedding date before you decide.

What is supplied

This listing is for the sherwani itself, in Silk Jamawar. The deep red velvet shawl and the red and gold turban shown in the photographs are separate pieces — velvet describes the shawl, not the sherwani. Those pieces, along with a kurta pyjama and khussa, can be added above before you order. Anything else visible in the images is shown for styling only.

Styling a golden sherwani

Gold is the most assertive colour a groom can choose, so most of the styling decisions are about restraint. The sherwani already carries the weight; accessories generally work better echoing the red than adding more metal. A deep red turban and shawl are the obvious route, and the photographs show that combination, but a plain dark stole and simple footwear let the embroidery do more of the work.

It can be styled for a baraat, a nikkah or a walima. Under artificial light at an evening reception the gold work intensifies noticeably; in flat daylight it settles down and the red does more of the defining. Alongside a bride in red, the accents will echo her outfit — which some couples want and some deliberately avoid, so it is worth deciding that between you rather than by default. Caring for the embroidery

Professional dry cleaning is the recommended route. Do not machine wash. Do not iron directly over the embroidered areas — press from the reverse at a low heat, or steam gently, keeping heat away from the worked panels. Apply perfume to the skin rather than over the embroidery. Store the sherwani hanging in a dry place, in a breathable garment bag rather than plastic, and avoid prolonged damp.
